BANGALORE: There are glad tidings on the western front of Namma Metro.
In 2014, Bangaloreans could well be zooming from Byappanahalli to Nayandahalli junction, Mysore Road, in about 33 minutes. Officials at Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) are looking at commencing commercial operations on the 18.1-km east-west corridor by September.
BMRC officials hope the ongoing work continues at its present pace for an early inauguration of the East-West corridor.
At present, commercial operations are under way from Byappanahalli to MG Road Station on the eastern corridor. The Metro runs on viaducts up to Chinnaswamy Stadium, then goes underground up to Magadi Road and runs above the ground up to Mysore Road.
On plans along the East-West corridor, BMRC MD PS Kharola said, “It’s likely to be ready by September 2014.”
According to a BMRC update, work has been expedited on the underground stretch between Minsk Square and Leprosy Hospital, beyond City Railway Station. Tunnelling work between Majestic and the east ramp near Chinnaswamy Stadium (2.3km), and west-bound tunnels and pocket tracks near City Railway Station (108 metres) are over. More info
