DOHA: With Qatar Petroleum’s (QP) gas distribution network intersecting Qatar Rail’s proposed Metro network at several places, QP is likely to reroute its network at several points. It is in talks with Qatar Rail to sort out the issue.
The Doha Metro, an integral part of the Qatar Rail Development Programme, will cover the Greater Doha area and will include connections to town centres and vital commercial and residential areas in the city. In central Doha, the Metro will be underground, while on the outskirts it will mainly be at ground level or elevated.
Talking on the sidelines of the “QatarGas Distribution Projects” conference here yesterday, Ali Attiq Al Yaeeshi, Lead Process Engineer, Transmission and Distribution, QP, told The Peninsula that discussions were on with Qatar Rail to address the issue.
Ali Attiq said intersection of the gas distribution network and the rail network would not force QP to redraw its distribution network in a big way.
In a presentation made in Abu Dhabi in 2012, QP’s Transmission and Distribution department had noted that Qatar’s proposed rail and metro network crossed QP’s ‘existing proposed’ gas distribution network at least at 24 points. More info
